Months ago when we started our Xanga blog, we did so because Blogger was not an option. At the time we were unable to access Blogger and at no time during our two years in China had we been able to. As coincidence would have it, China unblocked access to Blogger within days after setting up our Xanga account.
On December 26 Matt and I were sitting at home in separate rooms enjoying a quiet evening when we noticed that things in the house started to rattle. We both thought that the other had opened a window and that the wind was causing things to move. It didn't take long to realize that we were both experiencing our first earthquake. A few minutes later it happened again, though this time it was a little stronger. We didn't know how much those little tremors from a Taiwanese earthquake would affect us over the coming weeks.
What we are experiencing here now is being referred to as a "Digital Tsunami". During the first couple of days following the quake in Taiwan we had virtually no internet access. We are still experiencing a slow connection and several sites are unaccessable. One of the sites that we have had trouble connecting to is Xanga, and thus I have decided that now is a good time to switch to Blogger. I just hope that China doesn't again decide to limit access to Blogger! Welcome to our new blog!
